Who needs a Group Health Plan?

A Group Health Plan is a health insurance plan that is offered by an employer to all eligible employees. It is a group insurance plan that covers the medical expenses of the employees and their dependents.

To be eligible for this benefit, employees must have worked for at least 1,000 hours in the previous year or have worked for the employer for at least 12 months within the last three years.

The Group Health Plan is best suited for:

Employees who earn a low annual salary. Employees who don’t want to buy health insurance on their own (though it can be done). Employees with pre-existing medical conditions who would not be able to get affordable coverage through an individual plan. Employees with families who need several types of insurance in order to cover all members (for instance, dental and vision). Employees who don’t qualify for Medicare or Medicaid when they retire.

What kind of health plans are available to business owners?

There are two primary categories for health insurance: individual and family plans, which are purchased by individuals to cover themselves or their families; and small business/group plans.

The latter kind of plan is employer-sponsored coverage that typically requires both an employee's payment (half) and the company's contribution (half). After this, there are more options to choose from like PPOs - Preferred Provider Organization.

These may be right for you if your provider participates in the PPO, if you want to take control over your healthcare decisions through a predetermined list of providers chosen by the organization itself.

HMOs - Health Maintenance Organizations offer another option with less out-of-pocket expenses than traditional premiums because it usually offers little or no copayments except during specific periods when care is needed.
